Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need to be a patient of Dr Bennett’s to book a Griffith’s Developmental Assessment?
Dr Bennett would be pleased to see you and your child to provide a Griffith’s Developmental Assessment.
If your child is not a current patient of Dr Bennett, please have your General Practitioner, Paediatrician, Speech Therapist or Psychologist write a referral for Dr Bennett. The assessment report will be provided to yourself and your child’s referrer. Dr Bennett encourages you to schedule a brief follow-up appointment to discuss the results of the assessment with her, however this is optional.
If you would like any further information about Griffiths Developmental Assessments, please contact the clinic.
We do not live in Canberra or Geelong, how do I organise an appointment with Dr Bennett for my child?
Dr Bennett often provides consultations for children who live in rural settings in Australia or live outside of Canberra. If you do not wish to travel to Canberra or Geelong for an appointment with Dr Bennett at her clinic, you could discuss with your General Practitioner whether a Telehealth consultation with Dr Bennett would be appropriate for your child’s presenting concern.
My child refuses to attend doctors’ appointments, can we still seek Dr Bennett’s opinion?
Many children with developmental and behavioural challenges find doctors’ appointments difficult or confronting. Dr Bennett cares for many children with anxiety, relational or sensory issues who sometimes cannot face the appointment.
If your child is fearful, refusing to attend or unable to make the appointment for another reason, please contact Dr Bennett’s clinic to discuss your personal situation. Parents or carers are often encouraged to attend the child’s scheduled appointment rather than miss the consultation entirely, this may also allow for planning for a more successful appointment with Dr Bennett and your child in the future.
As Dr Bennett is a Paediatrician, a parent or carer consultations without the child (patient) present are not eligible for Medicare rebates. The clinic has developed a fee structure for parent or carer-only appointments, please contact the clinic for further information about parent and carer-only appointments or if you are concerned that your child may refuse to attend the scheduled appointment with Dr Bennett.
